Building the Vision - Sauska Winery

SHORTLIST ARCHITECTURAL REPRESENTATION | Photographs

Project Description

The Sauska Winery, designed by Péter Bordás – BORD Architectural Studio, is set in the UNESCO-listed Tokaj-Hegyalja Wine Region, appears to float above the vineyards with its sculptural, lens-like form. Designed as a hub for winemaking and hospitality, the building rises from the hillside in two intersecting volumes, while production lies hidden below. Inspired by the purity of the Tokaj landscape, the architecture merges with its surroundings through organic geometry and understated detailing. Inside, circular fermentation halls with radial tanks and slender columns create a spatial rhythm.

Project Concept

“Building the Vision” is a concept to capture the life of a building, not just as a finished object, but as a process unfolding over time. I followed this architectural landmark for five years, from the foundation through changing seasons to its final form. Telling this journey in just 24 images was a challenge. Yet each frame reflects a moment within a greater arc: structure, light, and intention taking shape over time. The final stage culminated in October 2024, when I captured Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) rising above the finished structure. It wasn’t chance, this moment was carefully planned. After years of following the building’s growth, aligning it with one of the brightest comets of our lifetime felt like the natural closing of a long visual narrative, where architecture and cosmos meet by design.
