A Casa dos Tijolos Brancos was meticulously built by skilled artisan masons in a slow and precise process of laying solid blocks. The facades are clad in an outer layer of solid bricks painted white. Varying degrees of openness are achieved through the differing spacing between the bricks. The level of visibility through the bricks reflects the varying levels of privacy desired for each interior space. The open spaces between the bricks also allow for natural cross-ventilation.
The spaced bricks reinterpret one of Brasília’s most iconic architectural elements—the cobogó, which plays a vital role in natural ventilation and lighting in Brazilian architecture.
