Located in Belgium, the project is a comprehensive renovation of a pre-existing family residence, redesigned to enhance its connection with the natural surroundings—particularly a lake adjacent to the property. Due to local regulations, the original façade walls had to be largely preserved. The design intervention focused on replacing the previous steeply pitched roofs with thinner, horizontal rooflines and eaves, softening the overall massing and better integrating the house into the landscape. Distributed over three levels—basement, ground floor, and mezzanine—the interior is organized around a central staircase beneath a skylight.
The inspiration was to reconnect the residence with the surrounding environment—both visually and spatially—while honoring the memory and structure of the original home. The design reflects a dialogue between Brazilian tropical sensibility and the understated elegance of Belgian architecture. This balance is evident in the interplay of modern horizontal lines and earthy textures, as well as in the selection of vintage and locally crafted furniture. The renovation transforms the house into a light-filled, open, and intimate space that embodies the family’s lifestyle while embracing the tranquility and privacy offered by the surrounding forest and lake.
