HODI
DIDHEYA

SHORTLIST PRODUCT DESIGN | Urban Furniture

Product Description

Designed by Iratzoki Studio for the Basque manufacturer Didheya, Hodi is a modular seating system developed to respond to the diversity and changing nature of public space. Combining straight, curved and angled modules, the collection can form individual benches or continuous compositions that follow pathways, define meeting areas or integrate naturally into landscape and urban projects. Different configurations may incorporate backrests selectively and include occasional side tables, allowing the same installation to accommodate a variety of everyday activities. Sitting, resting, meeting, eating or working coexist naturally within a system that adapts to its surroundings rather than prescribing a single way of being used. Rather than functioning as a collection of individual objects, Hodi creates coherent spatial sequences capable of connecting people with the places they inhabit.

Product Concept

Hodi originates from a simple constructive principle: the repetition of parallel stainless-steel pipes. This elementary structure generates every part of the system, transforming the same language into seats, backrests, curves and transitions without introducing additional formal elements. By relying on repetition rather than complexity, the project achieves a strong visual identity while remaining highly adaptable. Straight sections establish continuity, curves soften transitions and angled modules respond to changes in direction, allowing the system to engage with architecture, landscape and movement as an integrated whole. The occasional incorporation of side tables extends the function of the bench without interrupting its continuity, supporting informal encounters, temporary work or everyday activities in public space. Rather than adding accessories, these elements reinforce the idea of furniture as a shared urban infrastructure.
