The design proposes a sustainable landmark and gateway that blends the cityscape of the community with the natural landscape of the region. The stepped roof provides an extension of the park, creating an easily accessible greenspace with views of the surrounding city. Cascading skylights bath the museum and library in natural, illuminating light to minimize the need for artificial lighting. The planted roof avoids water runoff and naturally insulates the building from extreme weather.
A geometrically simple yet unique gesture – a stepped hyperbolic paraboloid in a 30×30 meter grid – creates a cost effective solution with a big impact while unifying the library and museum underneath a new greenspace for the community.
