The project is a full redesign of the public areas at Kimpton Los Monteros Hotel in Marbella, carried out by EL EQUIPO CREATIVO. It reinterprets the building’s original 1970s architecture through a contemporary Mediterranean lens, creating vibrant, welcoming spaces across the lobby, lounges, bars, restaurant, patio, and rooftop.
The design emphasizes sustainability through the use of natural and locally sourced materials, handcrafted elements, and passive strategies such as natural lighting, sun control, and cross ventilation. These measures reduce energy use while enhancing comfort and connection to the local climate and context.
The concept is deeply inspired by the landscape, culture, and artistic legacy of Marbella and the wider Andalusian region. EL EQUIPO CREATIVO set out to reinterpret the Mediterranean spirit through a modern lens, celebrating the interplay of sunlight, lush vegetation, sea, and sky, along with the vibrancy of southern Spain’s visual traditions.
A key conceptual influence is Pablo Picasso—born in nearby Málaga—whose bold use of form, colour, and emotion echoes throughout the interiors. His legacy informs not only the artistic murals but also the expressive curves, colour contrasts, and ceramic craftsmanship that define the project. These elements evoke the feel of a curated, artistic home full of texture and character.
The design also draws from the 1970s, the era in which the original building was constructed. Rather than replicate, the design reimagines this period’s aesthetic, introducing geometric patterns, vintage hues, and playful built-in details to create a nostalgic yet fresh ambience.
Across all spaces, the balance between old and new, local and modern, remains central. The result is a hotel that captures the essence of Marbella with sophistication, warmth, and a bold, contemporary Mediterranean voice.
