Project Description

Kiri is a table lamp featuring a translucent shade made from recycled fiber paper and a solid marble base. It goes beyond its lighting function, taking on a sculptural presence in the space. The semi-rigid shade requires no internal metal structure and fits precisely into the carved recess of the base. Hand-cut and stitched, it diffuses a soft, welcoming light.
The line includes three models that share the same base shape but differ in the cutouts for inserting the shades and in the unique design of each. Each shade explores its own cuts and stitching, offering singular experiences of light and form.

Project Concept

Kiri is a lamp born from the meeting of the lightness of paper and the solidity of stone. Its name, of Japanese origin, carries multiple meanings that permeate the project: kiri can mean “mist,” evoking the soft and diffuse light that passes through its fibers and creates an atmosphere of calm and contemplation, almost like watching the fog illuminated at dawn. But Kiri also refers to “cut,” as in the kirigami technique, reflected in the precise design of the shades, which are hand-cut and stitched.

The shade, made of recycled fiber paper, both sturdy and translucent, delicately diffuses light, subtly and lightly enveloping the environment. In contrast, the solid marble base anchors the piece and reveals its strength. However, the encounter between the two materials unfolds in a surprising way: the paper seems to cut the stone, creating an unlikely and precise fit where one supports and shapes the other.

Other references to Japanese culture permeate the design, from the cylindrical base, reminiscent of kokeshi dolls with their simple and elegant bodies, to the visible stitching and shaping of the shade, which evoke traditional Japanese kimonos.

Kiri reveals itself as the intersection between light and dense, organic and mineral, visible and subtle. It expresses a gesture of balance between matter, light, and time. A silent presence that transforms the space.
