Modernistas
Studio Linda Martins

SHORTLIST PRODUCT DESIGN | Small Object Design

Project Description

Each piece stands 24 cm tall and carries the strength of both material and memory, crafted from leftover wood, metal, marble, and brass found on our factory floor, reaffirming our commitment to sustainable design. Conceived as both functional and poetic objects: flower vase, pencil holder, candleholder, and bookend, the Modernistas are composed of geometric blocks that optimize material use, streamline production, and reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Numbered and collectible, each piece gains soul through handcrafted details like mustaches, earrings, and glasses: delicate tributes to the iconic features of each modernist figure

Project Concept

Inspired by the great names of Brazilian modernism, a movement that reshaped the way we think about art, architecture, and design in the country: Lina, Oscar, Costa, and Caldas are the figures behind each piece. They represent a break from convention, a search for Brazilian identity, and the fusion of the erudite with the popular, the rational with the intuitive. Each figure is a symbolic synthesis, translated into blocks of wood, metal, marble, and brass, leftover materials that gain new life through design, much like modern Brazil, rebuilt from multiple cultural references. At the same time, the series reflects on the role of the creator today: suspended between the digital and the manual, excess and scarcity, impact and subtlety.
