The Neon Lamp Series, composed of The Spheroid and The Circle, explores the physical and visual qualities of neon light through sculptural lighting design. Using blown glass tubes that bulge at specific points, the light gently diffuses and disappears, only to reappear as the tube returns to a straight form. Paired with folded stainless steel structures that reflect and amplify the soft glow, the lamps function both as wall-mounted fixtures and tabletop objects. The series transforms a fading visual language into tactile, luminous forms—bridging utility and poetic abstraction.
Inspired by the vanishing presence of neon signs in Taiwan, The Neon Lamp Series pays tribute to a craft that has been in steady decline since the 1960s. Once iconic in night markets and cityscapes, neon lighting is now being replaced by LEDs, resulting in the loss of both visual texture and traditional techniques. This project reimagines neon not only as a source of light but also as a cultural symbol. By manipulating the shape of the tubes and allowing the light to rhythmically vanish and reappear, the design evokes a sense of memory, impermanence, and reinterpretation of urban heritage.
