SHORTLIST UNBUILT & CONCEPTS | Hotels & Resorts

Project Description

Smooth, flowing curves and sculptural forms define SS Casa, a boutique complex of residential suites and wellness facilities. It’s composition is engaged in a direct dialogue with the surrounding landscape – located in Abu Dhabi, on 16,150sqm plot adjacent to an expansive golf course and in close proximity to the Arabian Gulf, the project aim was to conceive a configuration which could balance between privacy and social life, while maximizing the number of residential suites and incorporating a stand-alone spa and gym with framed, uninterrupted views toward the fairways.

Project Concept

How to generate architectural interest across a linear structure nearly 200 meters in length? The response is a massing strategy that breaks the volume into three interconnected buildings, articulated through continuous, gentle curves. These sculpted forms unfold into terraces, overhangs, and recessed planes, subtly modulating light, shadow, and view. The material palette reinforces this sensibility: off-white render, travertine stone, brushed aluminium, and wood accents were chosen for their tactile warmth and their ability to refract the intense Abu Dhabi light with nuance.

The program unfolds across four levels – a basement, ground floor, and two upper floors. The main access leads residents and guests through a central drop-off surrounded by a refined landscape design. From there, arrival takes place beneath a sculpted curvilinear canopy along a defined axis that organizes circulation, splitting access between the wellness facilities and residential lobby, while visually guiding the eye toward the open golf course background.
