Tênue Pendant is the hanging lamp of the Tênue Luminaire Collection, a result of extensive research into achieving minimal porcelain thicknesses.
Unlike the conventional use of ceramics as a structural base in most luminaires, the Tênue Collection employs ceramics as a light filter, harmoniously balancing and diffusing the emitted light.
In the Pendant lamp, the porcelain shade rests gently on a delicate aluminum structure, which serves as subtle support. This structure is suspended by thin cables made from transparent polymer-coated steel mesh.
In the Tênue Collection, each shade is unique and handcrafted. Porcelain, by its very nature, reveals subtle variations in tone, thickness, texture, movement, and translucency. These nuances are enhanced when illuminated, further highlighting the material’s natural beauty.
When examining the piece as a whole, the integration between artisanal methods and modern production techniques is perceivable. This fusion generates luminaires that combine the originality of the manual work alongside the consistency and efficiency of factory production.
In addition to that, we observed that canopy design is often neglected in many hanging lights fixtures on the market, which compromises the overall visual harmony of the piece. In response, we designed the canopies as integral elements that echo the language of the luminaires themselves. Made of aluminum and scaled to correspond with each shade size, the canopies discreetly house the LED strip driver, along with the mounting and height adjustment mechanisms.
As for the name of the collection, the choice of the term in portuguese “tênue” reflects the delicacy and lightness that characterize the pieces, slender and not very thick. “Tênue” in the portuguese language is also used to designate something barely perceptible. In english the term “Tênue” translates directly to the word “tenuous”.
