I’m Giancarllo Zaia Bruno, an architect graduated from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie in 2019. Since university, I’ve been deeply interested in how technology and sustainability can be applied to architecture to create innovative environments and enriching experiences for users. My career began in some of the most renowned architecture firms in Brazil, where I developed essential skills and worked on projects of various scales. I started at Studio Arthur Casas, followed by FGMF, and later Aflalo & Gasperini, where I was able to expand my repertoire and consolidate my design vision. In 2021, I founded ZAIA with the purpose of developing architecture that responds intelligently and sensitively to the needs of contemporary society.
The starting point of my work has always been a deep understanding of the problem, seeking solutions that are clearly reasoned and well justified. Every design decision is guided by parameters and data that help shape efficient, conscious, and relevant responses. Sustainability, in this context, is not treated as an add-on, but as a structuring principle. It is present in the choice of materials, in the thermal and energy performance of buildings, in the adaptability of spaces, and in their ability to evolve over time and through use.
This same logic extends to the urban scale. I see architecture as part of the city’s grid, and I believe that each project must engage with its surroundings, contribute to collective life, and respect the cultural and geographic layers of the place in which it’s inserted. Designing, for me, also means proposing a more accessible, functional, and integrated city, where public spaces are valued and the connections between people, buildings, and landscapes are strengthened.
In addition, user experience, along with all the aspects mentioned above, is also a priority throughout the creative process. More than fulfilling a function, architecture should evoke emotions and create bonds between space and those who inhabit it. Every decision, from material to proportion, from light to circulation, is designed to provide comfort, meaning, and identity. Form arises as a natural consequence of this process, never as the starting point. It emerges from logic, context, technique, and use, becoming a direct expression of the project’s core.
Our projects are developed with the intention of achieving a timeless balance between architecture and the environment, establishing a coherent, efficient, and sensitive spatial unity.
From city to detail, from environment to program. Architecture in its unlimited totality.
